In conjunction with Life Insurance Movement Day, which is today 8/22/2012, I can’t think of a more appropriate time to write about the topic I have devoted my entire career to: protecting families and businesses. Life insurance is obviously not a popular topic of conversation. In fact, when most people hear the words life insurance they do not have pleasant thoughts. However, the negative connotation that most people have about life insurance does not undermine its critical importance to all of us.
For the last 19 years, my area of specialization has been life and disability insurance planning. During this time, my company, MEG Financial, has helped thousands of individuals and businesses protect themselves and their companies with life insurance. As you may imagine, it has not been an easy road (I think all of us know at least one person who has tried and failed at selling life insurance) but the rewards of serving others has greatly outweighed any sacrifices.
Over the years, I personally have come to understand so much more about the life insurance business than I ever dreamed. The truth is life insurance can make all the difference to the people we love and care about most. I have witnessed the “miracle” of life insurance first hand as we have processed 31 death claims since 1994. Among these 31 people were husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers and many were business owners. They were real people who had real dreams and goals for themselves and their families. The great thing about each of these 31 people is that they loved their families and wanted to guarantee that their dreams and goals could be realized regardless of the circumstances. Therefore, they bought life insurance and large amounts of it.
My experience, in serving others and especially in working with surviving family members, has made a profound impact on me and the way that I look at life in general. The reality is that the importance of life insurance cannot be understated. If you have a family or business, it is your responsibility to protect them. You owe it to your loved ones to make sure they are provided for in all situations. I can’t think of a better time than Life Insurance Movement Day to make sure you have taken care of your true obligations to the people that you love the most.
